Welcome to Beth Shalom!
Whether you're established in the area, just moved in, studying or visiting, Beth Shalom offers you a warm welcome
“It’s one big warm family”. So many have said this over the years that it must be true.
Cambridge Beth Shalom is a community like no other - a thriving and amazingly diverse Reform community drawing members from the Cambridge area and visitors from all over the world. We hold services weekly on Shabbat morning, High Holy Days and festivals and, although no congregation can be all things to all people, at Beth Shalom we strive to accommodate the needs and wishes of our members while maintaining the sanctity of Jewish tradition.
As members of the Movement for Reform Judaism, our approach to religion is in the British progressive tradition — open minded and thoughtful, firmly rooted in our history but mindful of the times in which we live. We are egalitarian and inclusive, welcoming diversity and encouraging all — men and women, old and young — to participate in the religious life of the community.
Most tasks at Beth Shalom are done by volunteers and, with the exception of visiting rabbis, all services are led by members of the community, whose collective experience and knowledge is extensive, making for a variety of styles and freshness of delivery. A somewhat peripatetic community, our services are held in a local school hall, with alternative venues for Barmitzvahs, High Holidays and some festivals - but we hope this is soon to change (see Building News)!
We run a large Cheder, adult eductaion classes and a toddler group on Sunday mornings and there are regular social events such as our Oneg Shabbat and quiz, talks and cultural trips.
It all has the unique Beth Shalom stamp: once experienced, never forgotten. Come and see for yourself - whether as visitors or potential members, you and your family will be very welcome.
