Adult Education

116235.jpgOur Adult Education programme includes weekly Hebrew classes at several different levels, study sessions on Torah and Rabbinic texts, and introductory workshops on Shabbat and the Festivals. Torah reading and cantillation lessons can be arranged on request. The synagogue also offers a course for prospective converts to Judaism.

Hebrew Classes

Hebrew Classes for adult learners are held on Sunday mornings at the same time and place as the Cheder 10:30 - 12:30. Lessons combine learning to read biblical Hebrew together with reference to basic modern spoken Hebrew. New students may be able to join in: please get in touch if you are interested. There are currently three classes: Advanced, Intermediate and Beginners.

Lectures

Throughout the year we offer occasional talks related to our cultural heritage. These talks are part of the Adult education programme and held in parallel with the Cheder, 10:30 - 11:30 am on a Sunday morning replacing one hour of the Hebrew lesson. We are fortunate in having the choice of stimulating and knowledgeable lecturers here in Cambridge and last year the talks were very well received by the wider Jewish community.

Library

Beth Shalom has built up an extensive library of over 250 interesting and informative books on Jewish subjects. The library is housed in the home of one of our members, and is easily accessible by arrangement. You are welcome to visit and browse and will not be intruding. The books are there to be borrowed and enjoyed by the whole community!
